Warren Named SUNYAC and North Atlantic Region All-Star

Carissa Warren

Carissa Warren, HCS class of 2015 was named to a pair of ALL-Star teams at the conclusion of her freshman season at SUNY Oneonta.  Recently, the State University of New York Athletic Conference announced  the All-Conference Team in the sport of field hockey, and Carissa was named to the First Team.

Warren started every game for Oneonta in her rookie season and collected three defensive saves.

Oneonta finished the 2015 season with an overall record of 5-13 while going 3-3 in the SUNYAC and qualified for the SUNYAC tournament where they were defeated in the semifinals by SUNY Cortland, 2-0.

In addition, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association released its 2015 All-Region Teams yesterday and Carissa was named to the second team for the North Atlantic Region.

Warren had an immediate impact for the Red Dragons during her rookie season as a starting defender.  She started all 18 games for Oneonta and collected three defensive saves.  Warren also earned honors as a first team All-SUNYAC player this fall.

“I can’t even put into words how proud I am of Carissa,” said Head Coach Kelly Kingsbury.  “Her passion and dedication to this team shows everyday on and off the field.  As a first year player she came in and was a mainstay in the backfield for us.  I have very high expectations for Carissa and the rest of the young squad we have returning in 2016.”

Congratulations, Carissa

Johnson and Devona Qualify for States

Matt Johnson

During the 2015 fall cross country season senior Joe Devona and Sophomore Matt Johnson learned some great lessons.  Stick together, train hard, push one another, and know that the healthy competition between you will cause you both to improve while at the same time inspiring others to improve themselves. In the end they both accomplished their goal of making it to the state meet.   Awesome, but more important goals were attained and lessons learned. A great man once said that “running taught me many valuable lessons.

In competition, training counted more than intrinsic ability, and I leaned that I could compensate for the lack of natural aptitude with diligence and discipline.  I applied this to everything I did.”  It’s my hope that these boys and their teammates will have learned that lesson as well.  They may not be the most talented runners but the effort they put forth took them where they wanted to go and all season they were disciplined in their effort, positive in the attitudes, and they never tore down the plan, looked for excuses, or went negative.  Their only thought was of things that could be done to improve their training or their next race. Congratulations!

Take this lesson into your future life and you will surely do great things.   I personally cannot wait to see the great things you will do on Saturday November 14th at the NYS Meet at Monroe-Woodbury High school, but that will be small beans in comparison to the pride I will feel when you apply the lessons learned in the fall of 2015 to your future endeavors. Work hard, keep it positive, challenge yourself, set goals, be determined to reach those goals, be willing to suffer though the hard times that will inevitably come, and the future rewards will be great. Go get it boys…eyes up focused on the prize ….make it hurt…Pain is temporary………………………………. Coach Wright
