Varsity 2013 Season Recap

This past field hockey season was like no other. The varsity team struggled to make ends meet but were able to keep a positive attitude along the way. Throughout the season the girls were able to learn new techniques and game-like strategies that they will be able to use in their future seasons.

During the season the field hockey program set up a “****** Cancer Awareness” concession stand where they were able to raise over $100. They donated the money to the Susan G. Koman Foundation where the money will be used towards finding a cure.

This year there were two varsity girls that were awarded “2nd Team All-star”, Miranda Congdon and Shannon Nixon.  There were also two varsity girls that were awarded “1st Team All-Star”, Abby Bird and Carissa Warren. These girls were awarded their awards by the head of Section IV during half time of the “Senior Classic Game” that was on November 4th at Vestal High School. Courtney Lee, Kayla Schultz and Abby Bird were the three seniors that were selected to play on the home team for the “Senior Class Game” and helped their team win with a final score of 2-0.

I would like to say thank you for all of the help and support thatall the parents have given this past season and would like to wish the best of luck to the seniors with whatever it is they choose to do.

Mod Field Hockey

The modified field hockey girls were the true definition of a team. They played and practiced their best on a daily basis and their hard work and dedication showed on the field. The girls drew 86 corners throughout
the season and scored 9 goals. We will miss the 8th graders next year as they move up to JV, and the 7th graders will continue to work hard with their high potential to strengthen the field hockey program.

JV Field Hockey Concludes Successful Season

The 2013 JV Field Hockey season started out with a new coach and the players getting used to new philosophies and style of play.  We emphasized basic skills and fundamentals throughout every practice and this carried over into the success we experienced throughout the season.  This translated to us outscoring our opponents 18 to 9 and out cornering them 71 to 43.  Every player worked hard and improved tremendously.

There were 6 returning players and 6 new players to compete at the JV level.  They consisted of 7th
grader Sarah Peterson; Freshmen Sam Cower, Brynn Crocker, Emma Davis and Sabrina Gates; Sophomores Rayann Baker, Crystal Riegel, Ashley Rucky, Sydney Schultz, Allison Storrs and Sam Strollo; Junior Mackenzie Havens; manager Makenna Lowe; and coach Cheryl Hamilton.

I look forward to all of them returning to the Field Hockey program next year and continuing to improve.
